Student Community Engagement Leadership Conference

Cummer Valley MS is located in central Toronto with a high percentage of our students coming from immigrant families. We have three contained ESL classes and pride ourselves on student engagement and character education. We are currently working with students and staff to plan a leadership conference (Dare 2 Dream) for grades 7 and 8 students from our school and neighbourhood schools to become involved in leadership training that will assist students in developing a plan of action to engage the community by "paying it forward." We are developing a one day conference model that will provide break-out sessions for students headed by community agencies, not for profit groups, charities, teachers, community leaders and high school students who will facilitate workshops on a variety of topics. Students will be asked to create a partnership with a community group or cause in their community and create a plan of action to aid, assist or raise awareness for the cause.
Schools will report back to the large group to share their project and reflect on the success and challenges of completing their projects.
