Boomerang Lunches

Our goal is to motivate and engage the students to be mindful of the impact their actions have on the environment and to choose actions that will help protect the planet. Students are encouraged through boomerang lunches to bring back the litter from their lunch to home to be sorted and disposed of appropriately by the student and his/her family.

Update (June 1, 2010)

The Boomerang lunches are helping students to think twice about where their “garbage” goes. Many have decided to participate in our optional Waste Free Lunch Program. With $200.00 from Ontario EcoSchools and $750.00 from Green Street Youth Leadership Challenge ( precursor to Imagineaction), we purchased one reusable water bottle with school logo per class and one Laptop Lunch Box System also in school colours (red and black). The EcoLeaders distributed draw coupons to students who had prepared Waste Free Lunches during the month of April. A draw occurred at the end of April in each classroom. It was a very popular program!
