This teacher’s guide is designed to support the study of the novel The Book of Negroes (2007) by Lawrence Hill with Grade 11 and 12 students in an English course. The Book of Negroes (2007) follows Aminata Diallo as she is forced into slavery when she is kidnapped from her village in West Africa at the age of 11. The story sees Aminata through many hardships, atrocities and losses. Aminata’s journey brings her full circle as she returns to Africa with the hope of creating a new settlement (Freetown) in Sierra Leone. The teacher’s guide includes a summary of the novel, author’s biography, historical timeline, Internet resources and lesson plans. Some student handouts are also included. Format: PDF
