In 2006, a social movement was building momentum in Oaxaca, Mexico. What began as a teachers’ strike quickly evolved into numerous displays of social justice, protest, and activism that garnered national and international attention. Teaching Rebellion: Stories from the Grassroots Mobilization in Oaxaca (2008), includes testimonies from people who participated in what has come to be known as the “Popular Assembly of the People’s of Oaxaca”. The stories tell of the struggle against abuse from the state government and the resulting participatory democracy.
