Parvana’s Journey (2002), is the second book in author Deborah Ellis’ series The Breadwinner. The book picks up the story of the series’ main character, Pravana. Afghanistan continues to be in a state of crisis as the war rages and Western forces are bombing the country in attempts to rid the region of the Taliban. Pravana’s has father has died while her mother and siblings are away. She is motivated to seek out her family to share of their loss. Parvana begins to make her way across the Afghan countryside, all the while disguised as a boy. She faces the threat of bombs but welcomes the company of other children.
